A Postcard from The ZONE by cyrus-crashtest A Postcard from The ZONE by cyrus-crashtest
A SNIPPET AND IMAGE FROM OUR UPCOMING S.TA.L.K.E.R. GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIAL AT CRASHNEXUS [link]

I can see the Zoneís perimeter fence approaching quickly Ė the old barbed wire stretches around a vast area that holds things I canít even imagine from the safety of the civilized world I am about to leave behind me. The area around it doesnít look as abnormal as the rumors about the constantly-changing landscape would suggest; fields of tall grass and rolling hills lead all the way to the perimeter, giving off a peaceful calm as they wave blissfully in the breeze. But there is a change in the air; an overwhelming sense of dread passes over me as I begin to make out small details beyond the barbed wire. Old, abandoned houses, a long, abandoned road whose faded lines and cracks remind me that no vehicles have traveled it on over two decades, and an overgrowth of plants that conceal the rest of the area in mystery.

I can already sense the voice in my head telling me to turn back now or be prepared to never return. The feeling of death and decay is strong around me; even though visually the landscape is lush and overgrown with new plant life since the removal of mankind. But my primal instincts are telling me that this place is death and that Iím walking willingly towards my doom.

Great work, and very nice thoughts here - for some reason, I also think of the Exclusion Zone the same way (and not because of the game): there is something that attracts and repels me to Chernobyl at the same time. I would like to visit Chernobyl and Pripyat at least once in a lifetime, to see the whole thing for real. I really like the rusty tone in this picture, and the sun, breaking through the clouds - it really adds a mysterious feeling.

yeah - me and a few friends hope to make a visit there next year.

cheers - ill tell psyenxus you liked his writing too. the whole novel is truly an epic piece - hence we're breaking it into segments for the graphic edition

Well, I'm also writing a little fanfic - maybe not so epic, but still. [link] the first chapter.

Nope - I'm not a part of the GSC forum, and it is not finished yet - I'd like to paste a complete work in such serious sites as world wide forums. :)

dunno - its pretty good for getting feedback and constructive criticisms. also pretty good for not falling into common plot-traps that happen in fan-fiction
